My first encounter with the Alexander Technique was at music college. It helped my aching back, tight shoulders and an often unfocused mind. My vital capacity improved without effort, which was exciting after years of clarinet playing and strenious breathing excercises.
The Alexander Technique turned out to be a down- to-earth approach to life, empowering me to make choices in habitual, everyday situations. My Alexander Teacher taught me to perform with greater confidence and to be more self-reliant in aquiring new skills. The effects of the Alexander Technique could be felt both mentally and physically.
I trained with Anthony Kingsley at the Alexander Teacher Training School (ATTS) in London, and subsequently become a teaching memeber of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique*. In addition, I fulfilled two years of full-time post-graduate training at the ATTS, while also taking part in the CPD programmes for Alexander Teachers at ArtsEd and City Lit Drama Department.
When visiting London, I give individual lessons at the Alexander Studio. I also teach workshops at music colleges and adult education institutes in Finland.
